Roger Welles papers, undated and 1856-1860.

Materials relating to Roger Welles and his family while living in Minnesota. Included is a reminiscent account of Welles' experiences choosing and proving his claim on Lake Wahkanseka in the "Big Woods", near the Minnesota River (1856). Also included are photographic copies of receipts issued to Welles (1858); a diary for the Welles family with information on his marriage to Mercy O. Aikin in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and the birth of their son (1858-1859); a membership book of the Henderson Lodge No. 43, Independent Order of the Good Templars (undated and 1859); and a minute book of the Henderson Literary Temperance Society (undated and 1860).
